They returned to Shakespeare and Company just as Fiona was leaving.

“I’m glad you’re back. We are a bit short-staffed, so could one of you spend some time in the bookstore? I have to go out for an hour or so. I thought Aimee would be volunteering today, but I haven’t seen her.”

Amanda raised her hand. “I can help out.”

“Sorry, but I have stuff to do,” mumbled Leah.

“Like what?” Amanda asked.

“Just—stuff.” Leah shrugged. “Be right back.”

Aunt Jenny frowned as Leah left through the back door. “I’ll quickly type up my notes from this morning and then help out too.”

Amanda was pointing out the science fiction section to a young couple when Leah came rushing into the store. She saw Amanda and mouthed, “I need to tell you something.”

Amanda excused herself and turned to her distraught friend. “What is it?”

“I just saw your buddy, Philippe Lawrence, in a serious discussion with Aimee. They were studying maps and papers. I think they’re planning something. Maybe something dangerous.”
